Sleepless in Wherever

  1. Vicky says:

Wow.  I only have this problem when I travel with my family.  Never by myself.  I’m sorrry. wait.  I just think someone is trying to kill me half the night.

Ha! That’s just as bad! I have less trouble sleeping when my family is at the hotel with me because I’m used to their mayhem. I’m not used to unfamiliar mayhem! Also, I left out temperature issues. I HATE when I’m trying to sleep in a hotel that’s too warm or too cold (with no extra blankets). The odds are just not stacked in my favor!  😀

There are times when I am convinced that we are living the exact same life. Last time I traveled, I dragged the hotel engineer into my room at midnight to listen to the elevator noise, caring not at all that I was in my pajama’s. Truly, there is nowhere like home.

Ha! What did he do to fix it? I couldn’t imagine that the hotel didn’t get CONSTANT complaints about the “elevator rooms.” Next time, I’ll have to remember to request a room far, far away from the elevator.

And then, of course, they’ll put me by the ice machine! LOL.

Probably. It’s just that superfun lucky traveling star we were born under I guess. That time I actually moved rooms. In my pajamas. At 1AM. In fancy hotel mid-town ATL. Because it was making me INSANE.

The really stupid part was that it was a suite, and the headboard of the bed was on the elevator wall. All they had to do was switch the bedroom/living area around and there wouldn’t have been a problem. I’m sure I was not the first to complain. Sigh.

  3. Sarah says:

I bring a noise machine to hotels now. Because when I don’t sleep, I turn inhuman. LOL

  4. Gertie says:

    Earplugs.

  5. HopefulLeigh says:

I have learned this lesson the hard way: I always request a room far from the elevator. Nobody, but nobody, better mess with my sleep or I will come up with all manner of passive-aggressive forms of revenge.

  6. Kimberly says:

I am extremely sensitive to noise too so I feel your pain!  I will usually wear earplugs and sometimes pop (only one!) Benadryl when I am staying in a hotel.   But you are right, ear plugs do hurt….
I must say though, I have always found NYC an extremely easy city to navigate because of the grid system.  Far easier than Nashville 😉  However, I have only been there for pleasure and never business which I am sure makes a difference.  🙂

During our recent 2 week stay at the Hampton (not by choice, btw) they laid mulch right outside of our window on the second day we were there.  It was the worst smell in the world for a week.  Oh yeah, that’s where our air/heater was.  No getting around it.

  8. Terri says:

I am sitting here laughing so hard! So many can relate to this 🙂
