These days, budding authors are encouraged to use blogs in order to write about their new book and establish a rapport with fans and potential new readers. Most of these blogs are a bit awkward and forced. Sometimes, though, the blog gives you new and valuable insight into the author’s mind, and makes his or her book even more special.

Such is the case with Felicia Sullivan’s blog.

I met Felicia at BlogHer, after she stood up for me during the Penelopetrunkcapade. I’ve been reading and enjoying her blog ever since. Felicia’s memoir, The Sky Isn’t Visible From Here, just came out and I’m currently reading it. It is raw and painful and yet so beautifully written that I’m utterly in awe of her talent. Right now, she’s in the midst of all the hubbub that comes with a big book release, but rather than writing glib and breezy posts about all the publicity her book is getting as many writers would have done, Felicia is sharing her anxiety about exposing the darkest parts of her life to the world, as well as her fears, her joys and her disappointments. To me, her blog makes reading her book an even more real and personal experience.

I write all of this to say that Felicia gets my Perfect Post Award for this month. This post in particular, The Gift That Relapse Brings, is a perfect example of Felicia’s incredibly candid writing. Congratulations, Felicia, and thank you for putting yourself, your real self, out there not only in your memoir, but also each day on your blog.
