Hi! I'm Lindsay Ferrier. You might remember me from a blog called Suburban Turmoil. Well, a lot has changed since I started that blog in 2005. My kids grew up, I got a divorce, and I finally left the suburbs for the heart of Nashville, where I feel like I truly belong. I have no idea what the future will hold and you know what? I'm okay with that. Thrilled, actually. It was time for something totally different.

I still remember moving into my dorm room freshman year. The room looked more like a cell, with an austere metal bunk bed, two desks and two dressers. Still, I did my best with what I had– My mom had a seamstress make a pretty ruffled duvet from a set of flowery sheets, and I bought a few framed posters with affirmative statements from the college bookstore. In the end, I thought it looked pretty good.
But it didn’t look anything like these dorm rooms…
Part of me is all, WHUT.
And part of me is not at all surprised. I have to admit, I personally know moms who’d spend a fortune on a dorm room like this for their precious Mary Hadleigh. But while I like to poke fun at the businesses marking up their merchandise for these eager-to-please parents, I have to tell you, people, I went to an At Home event last week hosted by my friend Maria Bailey, and their 2016 Campus Collection could totally give a girl this look for her dorm room without spending thousands of dollars.
Think I’m kidding? Check out the Campus Collection display that met me when I walked in the door of my local At Home store.
Feather-like silk trees, decorative pillows in luxurious fabrics, gold and crystal everything… Shopping here can give your freshman an Instagram-worthy dorm room for about the same price you’d pay for ordinary dorm gear at your typical big-box department store.
Check out the 2016 Campus Collection for yourself to see more cool dorm room ideas, and if you share photos of your child’s dorm room with anything from At Home in them, be sure and tag it with #collegemovein and #athomestores so that the good people of At Home can see them!
Full disclosure: As I wrote earlier, I attended an At Home blogger event last week, but I’m posting this simply because I loved what I saw.
