Whether you’re making $20,000 or $200,000 a year, I hope you’re making the Dollar Tree a regular stop on your shopping circuit. Over the last decade or so, I’ve come to rely on this store where everything’s a dollar (or less) for soooo many household staples. And although you have to be careful that what you’re buying there truly is worth those dolla bills, in this particular post we are celebrating  the cream of the bargain crop– 20 of the very best Dollar Tree Deals.

 

Pregnancy Tests.

Why spend $15-$30 on a pregnancy test at the drugstore when you can get $1 pregnancy tests at the Dollar Tree? I used to buy five or six of these at a time when I was trying to conceive- and based on what I’ve experienced myself and heard from friends, they are totally accurate. SCORE.

 

Summer Pool/Beach Toys

Why is this dad so happy? He got those noodles at Dollar Tree, y’all. Dollar Tree is THE place for all the pool and beach toys you could possibly want- No more paying $10 for a sand bucket at Publix! Now you can spend a lot less on water toys and not freak out when your kids inevitably lose these things or leave them behind.

 

Greeting Cards.

Greeting cards are just $.50 each at the Dollar Tree (as opposed to $4.00+ at regular stores), and the selection is pretty decent. I stock up on birthday cards as well as sympathy and thank you cards just about every time I visit the store. Having a stack of these cards on hand for every possible occasion has saved me more times than I can count!

 

Gift Wrap, Gift Bags, Bows and Tissue Paper.

I always pick up a few gift bags and packages of tissue paper every single time I’m at the ‘Tree– There’s no worse feeling than having to buy a last-minute $5 gift bag and $4 tissue paper for a gift when I know I could have gotten the whole thing for two dollars if I had just done a little advanced planning. The gift wrap is crappy, I have to admit, but I love it at Christmas when I’m wrapping a whole bunch of toys, books, and doodads for the five other members of my family- They couldn’t care less what the wrapping paper looks like. For birthdays and gifts given outside our home, I rely on T.J. Maxx, which always has absolutely beautiful, high-quality wrapping paper in stock at a nice price.

 

Party Balloons.

It just kills me to see all those poor suckers buying Mylar balloons at Party City for $4-$6 apiece when YOU CAN GET THEM AT THE DOLLAR TREE FOR A DOLLAR EACH, PEOPLE. Come ON. Dollar Tree has a huge selection, too.

 

Serving platters.

These ‘silver’ trays are another of my all-time favorites. My local Dollar Tree doesn’t always have them in stock (although I see they are available on DollarTree.com), so when they do, I buy several in every shape and size. I have gotten so many compliments about these serving platters when I’ve taken them to events- They look like nice silver platters, but they’re actually made of plastic! This makes them suitable for even the fanciest of parties- yet cheap enough to abandon them if you need to when you’re done. Plus, you’ll love seeing people’s faces when you tell them, “Oh you can just keep the tray- I don’t need it back.” LOVE.

 

Poster Board.

We have all but abandoned flimsy poster board in favor of the much sturdier foam board, which can be found at– you guessed it– DOLLAR TREE. Available in black and white, foam board makes any school project look better- I also use it as a background and surface for photography projects.

Movie candy.

If you have kids, you’ve probably been suckered into buying overpriced movie candy at the theater more times than you’d like to admit. No more, my friend. NO MORE. Dollar Tree has all your favorite movie candy options at the low, low price of… say it with me now: A DOLLAR. Buy your kids’ favorites in advance, then surprise them once you’re seated at the theater.

 

School/Office Supplies.

Proceed with caution at the Dollar Tree when it comes to school supplies– It’s very possible that you’ll find better, higher-quality deals at other stores, particularly at back-to-school time. However, I always make a quick sweep past the school supply aisle on every Dollar Tree trip just to see if there’s anything worth my while. Scotch Tape is two for a dollar at the DT and I always pick that up (cheaper tape just doesn’t cut it for me), as well as index cards, tab dividers for notebooks, legal envelopes, and padded mailers.  If you’re a teacher or homeschooler, Dollar Tree is even more awesome– There are always lots of bulletin board decorations, incentive stickers and certificates, and other teacher-friendly supplies in stock, all at a fraction of what you’d pay for them elsewhere.

 

Disposable Pans

Disposable pans are another kitchen staple you should always, always buy ahead of time at Dollar Tree and keep on hand in your cabinet. These are indispensable when it comes to cooking meals for sick or bereaved families or bringing in a fresh-baked snack to a meeting or my child’s classroom party. DO NOT get stuck paying four times the price or these at the grocery!

 

Totally Awesome House Cleaning Products

I’ve heard lots of people rave about the Totally Awesome line of cleaning products at the Dollar Tree. I can’t wait to try them out for myself!

 

Craft Supplies.

My local Dollar Tree is right next to my local Michael’s– I pity the fool who doesn’t go to Dollar Tree first when picking up craft supplies for a school or scrapbooking project. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ended up finding what I needed at Dollar Tree and skipped Michael’s altogether.

 

Party Decorations

Dollar Tree is THE place to go for party supplies, whether you’re holding a bridal or baby shower or a child’s birthday party. You’ll find matching cups, plates, napkins, tablecloths, and more. It’s certainly not upscale, but I love this stuff for classroom parties, picnics, church events, and casual get-togethers.

 

Hard-to-Find Candy

Believe it or not, there are certain kinds of candy my family loves that I can only find at Dollar Tree. My husband, for example, loves Goetze’s Caramel Creams and Cow Tales– Only at the Dollar Tree, y’all. My son loves Spongebob Krabby Patties and both my kids are crazy about Nikl Nips, which Dollar Tree always has in stock. Once again, the Tree is a great place to start when you need candy to fill that Easter basket, Christmas stocking, or pinata. You might finish up elsewhere, but you owe it to your wallet to see what you can find at the Dollar Tree first.

 

Ginger Snaps

WSMV anchor Demetria Kalodimos swears the Dollar Tree’s ginger snaps are “super spicy” and “second to none”– and if you can’t trust Demetria, well, who can you trust? I can’t wait to try them.

 

 

Super Special Applesauce

 

Along those same lines, Suburban Turmoil reader Judith highly recommends Applesnax Applesauce, which she says she buys by the case! According to Judith, this ‘special sauce’ is made from MacIntosh Apples and comes from a private family orchard in Ontario. Wow!

 

Holiday Decorations

Don’t turn up your nose at Dollar Tree when it comes to holiday decorations–  You never know what you’ll find in the holiday aisles. Several years ago, I bought up a few dozen decorative autumn gourds and squashes at Dollar Tree that are completely identical to the ones you buy at the grocery in autumn for decorating. (I know because I bought real ones one year and couldn’t tell the difference!) I always hit up the Dollar Tree for decorative Christmas ribbon and this Easter, I found fantastic Easter egg window clings.

 

Reading Glasses

Plenty of people I know swear by the Dollar Tree’s reading glasses. For those of you who are constantly losing your reading glasses, this is a great solution! Buy them in bulk at the Tree!

 

Stocking Stuffers/Party Favors/Camp Care Package Items

True story: While at the Dollar Tree last November, it occurred to me that I could probably fill my 8-year-old son’s entire stocking with Dollar Tree toys and candy and he’d be completely satisfied. I was right. I spent about $15 total on his stocking, saved about $35, and I swear he was happier than the years I’ve ordered stocking stuffers online or bought them from Toys R Us and Phillip’s.

And who among us hasn’t ended up spending a fortune at Party City on party favor bags filled with… well, let’s be honest… crap? Now, I buy all that stuff at Dollar Tree. The kids get more stuff in their bags, I spend a lot less, and everyone’s happy.

 

Glassware

I was super excited to see that Dollar Tree is now carrying stemless wine glasses, in addition to lots of other options- At a dollar per glass, you really can’t go wrong when it comes to your everyday glasses.

 

A few things I won’t buy from the Dollar Tree?

-Batteries. Many studies show off-brand batteries don’t last as nearly as long as their name brand counterparts. I’d rather save up my coupons and wait for good sales on the good brands.

-Toothpaste, Deodorant, Shampoo, Conditioner, Soap, etc. You’ll save more money if you use coupons and shop your supermarket’s sales on these types of items. I never pay more than a dollar for any of these things at the grocery, and I generally pay far less– Also, the grocery brands are better and their sizes are typically larger.

–The Dollar Tree is online! That means that if there’s something you can’t live without, you can probably find it on the site. The downside? You have to order online products in bulk– But if it’s something you use often, that shouldn’t be a problem.

–Dollar Tree Stores accept coupons! Read the Dollar Tree’s coupon policy here. You can also find Dollar Tree coupon matchups online that will help you find current coupons to Dollar Tree products. This looks like a good one.

-All Dollar Trees are not alike! Different Dollar Trees in your town carry different merchandise and have different Dollar Tree deals– Keep that in mind if you’re looking for something specific.
