At about eight this morning, the snow started to fall. At about 8:02, Punky began begging to go outside and play in it. And so of course, I had to accompany her and snap the prerequisite Snow Day photos…
This year, the snow photos wouldn’t be complete without some bird photos. Last week, I bought a bird feeder so that we could learn a few things about birds. Well, now we’re learning more about birds than I ever wanted to know, because our backyard suddenly resembles an aviary. Robins! Chickadees! Woodpeckers! Cardinals! Tufted titmice! The Birds! They’re Everywhere!
While I obsessed over our birdage, Punky did quite a bit of standing around and staring at the white stuff falling from the sky. She walked in it. She patted it down. She talked of building a snow house, which we saw in a winter book and is her latest obsession. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that a snow house is almost impossible to build out of a quarter-inch of snow on the ground.
Now, 2 1/2 hours later, the snow has stopped falling and is quickly melting on the ground. But we got our pictures in, and I made sweet potato pancakes! Because it’s a Snow Day, y’all!
