Hi! I'm Lindsay Ferrier. You might remember me from a blog called Suburban Turmoil. Well, a lot has changed since I started that blog in 2005. My kids grew up, I got a divorce, and I finally left the suburbs for the heart of Nashville, where I feel like I truly belong. I have no idea what the future will hold and you know what? I'm okay with that. Thrilled, actually. It was time for something totally different.

Yesterday was a momentous occasion in the life of Bruiser Ferrier. The boy got his first haircut.
You’d think this wouldn’t be a big deal; Boys get their hair cut all over the world every single day. This haircut, however, was different. The mere thought of it gave me anxiety. Unexplainable anxiety, about the way Bruiser makes sudden, unpredictable movements, and about his vise-like grip. Every time I imagined sharp scissors anywhere near his head, the scenario ended with emergency surgery and a cautionary story that would air on local news and get picked up by Good Morning America.
Still, after three different people said something to the effect of, “Eeyuz thayut a garl?” last week, I knew something had to be done. Bruiser wasn’t anywhere near Ryder Hudson status, but his curls were extending wildly in every direction. And they were getting in his eyes. It was time.
We went to Hubs’s hairdresser and asked her to leave the curls, but shape it up. And she did a terrific job. My baby looks like a little boy! *Pause for proud sniffage* Best of all, she used a tiny pair of blunt-edged scissors, so the visions I had of Dead Again 2 were totally unfounded. (Thank God it’s Saturday, because this is the kind of post people hate, isn’t it? I mean, it’s so… mommyblogger. Really, I just wanted to show you the picture.)

>My oldest still hasn’t had her hair cut, and I burst into tears when my youngest had bangs cut. Talk about anxiety. *lol*Good luck with Mirena, I’ve heard good things!
>”But I’ll let you all know how it goes. It’s going to be at least a month, though, until I git ‘er done, so be prepared for a wait.Reviews to come, including a really fun giveaway!”Ok, I figured you’d review the mirena, but you’re giving one away? That’s just weird…Amy @ http://prettybabies.blogspot.com
>Aww, he’s so cute!My oldest is 8 and I try not to cut her hair (She has such pretty hair , it seems like a sin to cut it) and my youngest is 7 months, and barely has hair! Good luck with the Mirena. 🙂
>First time here and oh my God his name is Bruiser? I so want to fight him. In a good way. He just got his first haircut & he’s already the toughest kid in the world. Except I know a kid named Brick. Schedule the match: Brick vs. Bruiser. Baby teeth are flying! This comment is manic. I’m so excited that your kid’s name is Bruiser.
>I want an after picture! He looks so sweet.
>I’m not sure how long it will be before I get my daughter’s haircut. I’m sort of bummed there is no Mirena giveaway. I was really counting on it. haha. 🙂
>It’s been about a year since we did our twins first haircut. We went to one of those kiddie places with airplanes for chairs. I thought, “I’m not going to be shelling out this much money each time we get the kids’ haircut.”We now have a frequent visitor card. But they look forward to their haircuts and my anxiety is much less. Worth the money, I say.
>After picture?
>aaw poor thing!such a cute photo though! look at those mini teeth!
>Hey Lindsay — I am all about the Mirena, love the Mirena, BUT had mine inserted after pushing FOUR! SPAWN! through my cervix (including my nine pound twelve ounce firstborn without drugs) and “like a motherfucker” just about describes the insertion pain. But only for about a minute or two.Would definitely be worth taking something narcotic-y (Vicodin anyone?) or at least three or four Motrin before the appointment.Mine has to come out next year and I will definitely be taking a designated driver with me. Not getting it replaced though. Getting the husband neutered instead. snort.
>IUDs are awesome. So I hear.
>not wired for a Mirena even if I dun somethin’ to win it, so I pass to a more deserving (and gender-built-fer-it) candidate.I don’t remember my first hair cut; fact is, I don’t want to remember my last one (note to Bruiser for when he’s old enough to care: don’t EVER get your hair cut by someone who looks like a Chia Pet…)
>My daughter got her first hair cut from her two year old friend the day before Christmas photos. The bad news…she got a mullet! The good news…it was cheap, and I didn’t have to leave a tip!Just found your blog, and oh crap, now I have a new addiction to add to my already existing ones!
>My son had his first professional haircut recently (I managed on my own for a couple years, but I wanted a real haircut and he wont’ sit still for me). I was also afraid of him being stabbed in the eye or something (since I almost did that myself once when cutting his hair), but all was well. Bruiser is so adorable!
>There was radio competition in New Zealand where you entered a contest for your husband to get the big V. The winners then went out and had a keg party at the snow Friday night together, before heading in Saturday morning for vasectomy. They didn’t know each other prior! So, perhaps a Mirena giveaway isn’t so bad. When you’re ready for the permanant contraceptive, vasectomy is a great idea. Use the laser rather than scalpel method to cause less discomfort, follow the instructions correctly to prevent side effects, and no manhood issues as sperm is still produced, but absorbed into the body. Hubs had his done Friday night, and was back to work Monday. It’s a 4mm incision (er, sorry, metric!)Oh, and you are totaly welcome to watch. The laser makes a scary noise though.
>I just popped over to “The Blender” at Parents.com–and after reading his post there, I think I have developed a major crush on backpackingdad. He has written some wonderful comments on your blogs, but the idea of bringing flowers to give to someone who is being treated for cancer was just perfect! (Almost perfect–some chemo patients cannot have fresh flowers–but anyone you offered them to would be pleased.) Another thought, if you don’t see anyonoe on the hallway, take the flowers to the reception desk at the oncology office. Flowers are always a day-brightener!
>They get those first hair cuts and suddenly they are little men.I can’t believe how big he is! 🙂
>Uhm… Kate Hudson? What is with the kid’s hair? I mean honestly.
>Oh my goodness, he is the CUTEST! How can you be around him day after day and not just gobble him up?!
>Blog hopped . . . the haircut story. Even approaching my little guy with nail clippers and I get the shakes. He’s a cutie! Good luck with the IUD . . . kinda weird wishing someone luck with an IUD, isn’t it?
>Oh, he is SO cute!!!!!!! http://spiceworld.us
>I still can’t bear to cut Genghis’ hair, but since he’s starting to bump into furniture and corners, it’s getting close to time. Where did ya get it done in Bellevue? Thanks!
