Help. My Bed is Haunted.

It was 3 am and I was very much asleep when it happened.

“Hey-low,” a woman said in a singsong-soft voice, her lips just inches from my ear. She said it quietly, the way my grandmother might once have gently woken me on a summer morning… but this voice definitely wasn’t my grandmother.

“What?” I gasped, flinging off my blankets, sitting up, and looking around. The room was empty except for my husband, who was snoring softly beside me.

I sighed in exasperation and put my head in my hands.

My bed is totally haunted.

I know what you’re thinking right now. I was JUST DREAMING. That voice was PART OF A DREAM. But I’m a light sleeper and I remember most of my dreams, including what was said by the cast of characters that feature in them. My dreams play out a lot like a virtual reality movie — The audio is set at medium and it remains that way throughout, no matter what happens or who’s speaking.

These voices, though? They’re different. Every couple of months, I’m woken in the dead of night by someone speaking right into my ear, often in a loud whisper. Sometimes it’s a man, sometimes a woman, but it always seems to be a different person and it’s never a voice I recognize. Occasionally rather than voices, I’m woken by loud knocks, like someone’s at my door, but the door is in a place in the room where there is no door. I’m always startled awake when it happens, and while at first it scared me, now I’m just used to it. Can you even believe it?  I am totally used to being woken by random people whispering in my ear and knocking at three in the morning. THIS IS NOT NORMAL, Y’ALL.

Oh, and for those of you who are still feeling skeptical?

My husband hears them, too.

In fact, I just went to ask him the last time he heard something in the room and he said it was LAST NIGHT.

“At the foot of the bed,” he said. “It sounded like an older woman talking. Not old, but older.”

“Like the woman who whispered in my ear a few nights ago,” I said.

“Yep,” he nodded. “It woke me up. I almost woke you up, but I know you have trouble falling back asleep, so I didn’t.”

I don’t believe in ghosts, but I also don’t not believe in ghosts. I’ve definitely seen and heard some unexplainable things over the years, but this pretty much takes the cake.
