Hi! I'm Lindsay Ferrier. You might remember me from a blog called Suburban Turmoil. Well, a lot has changed since I started that blog in 2005. My kids grew up, I got a divorce, and I finally left the suburbs for the heart of Nashville, where I feel like I truly belong. I have no idea what the future will hold and you know what? I'm okay with that. Thrilled, actually. It was time for something totally different.

Food confession: I may have become a little bit obsessed with Beef Stroganoff.
Seeing recipes for it over the years, it seemed like it SHOULD be delicious. Thin strips of beef. Egg noodles. A sour cream-based sauce. Mmmmm. I tried several different recipes for it, though, and it was never all that special. Undaunted, I kept at it– and now, after nearly a dozen different attempts, I’ve got a truly awesome Beef Stroganoff recipe for you! Even better, it’s super simple and quick to make and it uses a lot of very ordinary ingredients, many of which you probably already have in your kitchen. My Beef Stroganoff is now a family favorite and in a house full of picky eaters, that’s saying something!
INGREDIENTS
DIRECTIONS
-Melt butter in pan. Add mushrooms and onions and cook until tender (about five minutes). Remove mushrooms and onions.
-Turn heat to medium high. Add beef and brown. You’re not trying to cook the beef through, just to get a nice sear on either side.
-Reserve 1/3 cup of consomme.
-Turn heat to low. Add to pan remaining consomme, along with ketchup garlic and salt. Stir.
-Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
-Add remaining consomme and flour and stir.
-Add onions and mushrooms. Heat to bubbling, stirring constatntly for one minute.
-Reduce heat to low, stir in sour cream. Do not let sour cream bubble.
-Serve over egg noodles.

Oh good heavens I LOVE stroganoff!!! I’ll have to try your version. I made the Southern Living version and goodness gracious was it delicious, but goodness GRACIOUS was it loaded with butter! Your recipe seems much lighter. 🙂
The Southern Living recipe was the first one I tried and it just didn’t do it for me. I think you’ll like this one even better! 🙂
I have read your blog for a few years now. One of the things I admire so much about you is how, despite how VERY busy you seem to be all the time, you still search recipes and prepare home-cooked meals for your family. I must admit I take the eat out / take out shortcut soooo much more than I should. I have actually made several of your recipes and they were all fantastic (my favorite being your mac & cheese).
Thanks, Bonnie! I only cook because I enjoy doing it– If I didn’t (and if my husband weren’t so appreciative), I’m sure I wouldn’t be making as much of an effort. 🙂 If your shortcuts work for you, don’t feel guilty about them!
I would love to see your mac & cheese recipe, where would I find it? I looked over EAT, not there, going to try stroganoff,
I love stroganoff! I make it in the crockpot and include red wine. For me, the key is to make sure it is really well-seasoned. I stir in the sour cream just before serving.Â
Ooh, I’d love to see YOUR recipe, Deanna!
I have made a beef stroganoff that I love, but my husband doesn’t, so I think I will try yours and hope he likes it. Â
I’ve made this recipe several times, and just wanted to say thank you for the recipe because my fiancé and I love it!
This was how my great grandma and mother made it. No other recipe comes close. Hands down the best thing in the world.
