Hi! I'm Lindsay Ferrier. You might remember me from a blog called Suburban Turmoil. Well, a lot has changed since I started that blog in 2005. My kids grew up, I got a divorce, and I finally left the suburbs for the heart of Nashville, where I feel like I truly belong. I have no idea what the future will hold and you know what? I'm okay with that. Thrilled, actually. It was time for something totally different.

>The phone rang over the weekend and Hubs picked it up.
“Hey man,” I heard him say from the kitchen as I folded clothes in the laundry room.
“That sounds fun, but I don’t think we’re going to be able to make it,” he said after a moment. “We’ve got all kinds of things we have to do today. Soccer practice. Spray tan…”
I dropped the shirt I was folding and charged around the corner. Catching his eye, I glared at him and drew my finger across my throat.
What?! he mouthed. “Thanks for calling though,” he said into the receiver. “We’ll see you.”
“That was Steve,” he said after he’d hung up. “They’re taking the kids to Red Caboose Park and wanted to know if we could meet up with them. I told them we were too busy. But what was with your hand gesture?”
“Are you kidding?” I said. “You don’t tell your friends I’m getting a spray tan! That’s my business!”
“Awww, people talk about spray tans at work all the time!” Hubs said. “Everyone does it. It’s no big deal!”
“It’s no big deal if I choose to tell someone!” I said. “It IS a big deal if you decide to tell them!”
“You’re overreacting,” he said dismissively.
“How would you feel if I told people we couldn’t do something because you were tweezing your monobrow?” I said (and I just made that up for the sake of this post. I would never tell y’all his real grooming secrets!).
Hubs paused. “I still don’t see what all the fuss is about,” he said.
Don’t you just hate it when people do this? It’s not just men, either. People assume that since you told them something about yourself, they can tell anyone they want to about it.
But it’s your story to tell. Yours! Not theirs!
AND THAT INCLUDES SPRAY TANS!
Hmph.
